Keith Explains! taping tonight, 5/6
Written by Administrator Thursday, 06 May 2010 15:56
Since it's the first Thursday of the month, I'm in the last stages of planning for the Keith Explains! taping tonight. If you are in the area ( Mountain View, CA ) and would like to be in the audience for the live taping*, drop me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. And, that * up there is just my way of saying that "live taping" is the show business way of making "taping" sound exciting. I mean, technically every taping is live, so why would it need a modifier?
I suppose I should mention that the taping starts at 8pm and usually finishes up before 9:30pm. Again, since the show is 30 minutes long, you could wonder why it takes us 90 minutes to tape a 30 minute show, but that's just because we have to get set up, and clean up afterwards, and it adds up. The actual "live taping" does, in fact, take 30 minutes somewhere in there.
And, since people always want to ask what I expect to talk about, even though at this point I have little idea, um, I guess I'll probably talk about my recent bike ride up in Napa, or maybe the recent terrorism stuff that's gone one. I promise I'll come up with more stuff before the actual taping, otherwise the show will suck.
Planning for tonight's show

As many of you know, I've been standing in line for the last two weeks at Apple's Palo Alto store waiting to get an iPad. This has been difficult, both because I am unaccustomed to living on the street and also because I have had to spend those same two weeks actually going to my job and meetings and everything else. Most folks would say "It's too much", but I found that if I just told people I was standing in line, they'd generally believe me, and it's not like folks are going to actually drive to the store and see if I'm there. A couple minutes with Photoshop and I had a picture to show folks if they asked.
All of which is a roundabout way of saying that we're taping the show tonight, at the usual place and usual time, even though I'm also standing first in line to get an iPad on Saturday. See you all there tonight!

Hi-ho,
Our next taping is Thursday, March 4th at 8:00pm in Mountain View -- ie, the usual day and time, and again you're invited to be in the audience. My guess is that I'll be talking about the Cinequest film festival, going on later this month and in early March. If you'd like to be in the audience, email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and we'll send you the details.

Written by Administrator Tuesday, 05 January 2010 18:37
We tape each episode of Keith Explains on the first Thursday of each month, and so this coming Thursday, January 7th is the first one of the month of this new year, you're all invited to attend and be in the audience for this month's taping.
Show up at the KMVT15 studios by 8:15pm on Thursday, January 7th
If you're expecting to come, please drop me an email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it so we have an idea how many folks to expect. Taping the show usually takes about an hour, so we're usually out of there by 9:30pm, when we go to Coffee Society at the Oakes in Cupertino for the after-party.
Thoughts from the December 2009 taping
Written by Keith Friday, 04 December 2009 18:42
Although I probably sound like a broken record saying it, the taping last night went ok. I'm always pretty hard on myself, and there were a few moments during the show that I knew the thing I was talking about was going nowhere, but in most cases I managed to wrest something out of it before falling too deep into a "not funny" hole.
Topics included the current Tiger Woods accident / affair news explosion, a catch up on my bicycling follies, my experiences with the current home renovations, and a startling announcement about the future of the show. You'll have to watch to get that last bit.
Happy holidays, all. See you next time.
Thoughts from the September 2009 taping
Last Updated on Monday, 21 September 2009 04:06 Written by Keith Monday, 21 September 2009 04:01
My big idea for the September show was that I could talk about health care reform. Generally, when I try to talk about anything vaguely political the show, well, sucks. But, I'm also desperate for topics, so...
Folks tell me that the show was pretty good. Apparently they rather like my ideas on the so called "death panels". I'm anxiously awaiting a call from the Obama administration now.
